Tyler Schwarz was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. He moved to Vancouver, British Colombia at 19 and 2 years later moved to Los Angeles. His first love was literature but later found music and played in several bands before finally landing on painting as a central creative passion. Tyler is a self-taught artist who has developed his skills by rigorous study, practice and observation. He has worked entirely in acrylics but has plans to move into oil painting. His process has changed over the years and today he uses a fully developed grisaille underpainting before adding color. The bulk of Tyler’s early subjects have been the musicians and artists who originally inspired him to follow a creative path. All his portraits are of people he genuinely loved and respected. His works have been sold all over North America and one of his collectors is Adam Jones of the band TOOL. Tyler spent 3 years founding and producing the artist CO-OP art shows in Los Angeles that helped upcoming artists exhibit their work in various spaces throughout the city. During his many years in L.A he was fortunate enough to befriend some of the artists that made up the L.A art scene. Recently he has left Los Angeles and has a studio in a loft space in Atlanta’s Grant Park neighborhood where he plans to create some large works in a new direction.
